Well, it’s been some time since I’ve update this blog. Last month, I was an exhibitor at AVGC, a new video game convention in New Jersey. It was fun being a part of a first year convention, especially one where a couple of old friends were involved in organizing.
I also showed my new prototype for the first time. Right now, I’m referring to it as Cropduster. It’s an action stealth farting game, I’ve been thinking about making for a long time. This version was extremely rough, and the “art” was… interesting. I was still able to get some great notes out of showing here, and it’s really helping with the early design stuff.
I’m currently working on a new vertical slice of the game, which I am hoping to show at NY Arcade in December. In the meantime, I am working on getting the art to a point where I can start showing this thing to y’all. There are going to be a number of updates about new prototypes and such in the coming weeks.
It’s been a hot minute since my last update. I’ve been in the early stages of working on a new game. I’ll be able to share more on it soon (screenshots and all that jazz), but I want to talk a little bit about it now.
The new game is called (at least for now) Cropduster, and it’s a game about stealth farting. You will start in an office after a large lunch, and oh no, you gotta poo! It’s a long way from your desk to the bathroom, and you just keep feeling gassier.
You will make your way to the bathroom, while cropdusting (farting slowly and silently, so people don’t smell it until you are long gone), doing your best not to get caught. If you let your gas meter fill all the way, you’ll poop yourself, and lose. If you get caught farting, you will also lose.
I’m in the early prototyping phase now, but am aiming to have something to show at A Video Game Con in New Jersey next month. Info on that convention here. I’ll post screenshots just as soon as I have some art ready.
This will be a longer development cycle than my last game, but I’ll keep y’all up to date on my progress. This is an idea I’ve had kicking around for a while, and I’m super hyped to be finally working on it. Look for more news on this here, or follow me on twitter @guyvanstratten.
New updates hit Doug today! First, Google Play Services are now integrated into the game. So, we now have high score leader boards and achievements.
I’ve also tweaked the difficulty a bit. It seemed like once you hit the max multiplier (30), things got a bit dull. You are going to see some changes in what items spawn at this point, which will add to the challenge.
So, the last thing: Only NEW high scores and achievements will post. This is due to the difficulty change, so that your high scores are comparable. If you want to reset your local high score, just uninstall and reinstall the app. This way, your new scores will post, even if you don’t beat an old high score.
I will launch a $1 ad free version of the game tomorrow. Expect another post then. Thanks for playing!
I’m thrilled to announce that Doug: The Endless Digger is available on Google Play! I had a great time developing it, and I really hope you’ll enjoy playing it. The game is equal parts Mr. Driller and Canabalt. A digging game with the perpetual motion and frantic action of a runner.
You can find it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.STAMPS.DougtheDigger
I am also very proud to be showing the game at NYU this Thursday at the Sheep’s Meow’s NYC Arcade. The event is free to the public, so if you are in the area, come say hi! Now get digging!
I am nearly done with development on Doug: The Endless Digger. It’s a one touch mobile digging game. You will dig through endless levels at an increasingly frantic pace. Avoid bombs, dodge rocks, and grab gold to get your score up. Available soon on Google Play.
